In response to this morning’s remarks by Mayor Rob Ford about Eglinton Connects, mayoral candidate Karen Stintz released this statement:
“I am shocked that the Mayor waited until today to oppose the Eglinton Connects proposal. This is a long-term project that has involved the many City Councillors and communities whose wards include Eglinton Avenue. That Mayor Ford has decided to oppose this proposal at the last minute proves once again that he has no idea what is going on in his own administration.
“Unlike Mayor Ford and John Tory, I have always supported the revitalization of Eglinton Avenue. With the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT underway, area residents and businesses have been adamant about improving Eglinton. We cannot simply tear the street up and then move on, this would be like renovating a house and then deciding not to paint the walls.
“Under my leadership, we approved an LRT tunnel under Eglinton as part of a transit plan to reduce congestion. On the surface, we need to invest in a plan that meets the needs of all who use the street, without increasing congestion. We are developing a revitalization plan for Eglinton and I will ensure its completion as Mayor.”
