“Karen Stintz came out Tuesday vowing to protect the city’s sports fields — even if they’re on school board property.

“Kids need more green space,” Stintz said during a campaign announcement beside the yard at Church St. Junior Public School on Wood St. in the downtown core.

If elected mayor this fall, Stintz promised to champion three initiatives to protect sports fields: She wants to partner with the private sector to secure funding to repair and improve fields, consolidate leasing of all fields — including school board fields — under the control of the city, and urge the province to work with the city to stop the sell-off of school fields to raise cash for cash-strapped school boards.”
